Get Treatment As Soon As Possible
You should always seek treatment as quickly as possible following your injury. While you may want to tough it out or avoid missing work, your failure to take care of yourself can be interpreted by an insurance company or a jury as indicating your injuries are not as severe as you claim. Do not take that risk, and seek treatment immediately.
In the event of life-threatening injuries, you may be taken from the scene of the incident directly to the emergency room. If you have injuries that are not life-threatening but still require immediate treatment, you may want to visit an urgent care facility.
But I Feel Fine!
Sometimes, you may not feel any pain immediately. For instance, muscle sprains, soreness, and other issues following a serious car crash may take a few days to manifest, but nonetheless may be symptoms of a deeper injury. We recommend seeing your primary care physician. Your physician knows your medical history and has the medical training to diagnose whether you are injured. If you do not have a regular physician, see a qualified medical professional who can assess your injuries.
If your doctor asks for a follow-up appointment, make sure to keep the appointment. If you continue to feel pain or other symptoms, schedule a follow-up yourself. If your doctor refers you to a chiropractor, physical therapist, or another specialist, schedule an appointment as soon as possible to continue your treatment.
Why You Must Seek Treatment Quickly
We are so strict and serious about asking our clients to seek medical treatment because insurance adjusters and their attorneys are ruthless. Your failure to take care of yourself can cast a shadow of doubt across your entire case. In short, we cannot and will not give you medical advice, but our best legal advice is to seek treatment immediately and continue to follow up until you feel better.
